What are the required permits for Mardi Himal Trek ?

We need to collect two different permits for Mardi Himal Trek. These are TIMS (Trekking Information Management System) Card and Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit. These two permits are provided by Nepal Tourism Board Office Nepal. If you apply online for these permits, you can get it prior to the trek. Or, the best and the easiest way is to make a request your trekking partner to obtain it for you beforehand the trek. The TIMS Card Cost Rs. 2000 and Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit costs Rs. 3000. 

How long is the Mardi Himal trek?

Mardi Himal Trek is normally 8 days long from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. If you commence it from Pokhara, then, it can be long like 5 days only. The camps on the trail are Forest Camp Low Camp, Base Camp, High Camp and Badal Danda before arriving Pokhara. And you need to have two more days to arrive from Pokhara to Kathmandu with Pokhara sightseeing tour. You need to do Pokhara city tour because it’s very special for you since you are already in the city and you may not have time to come back for a long time.

However, some people do Mardi Himal Trek in 4 days too. This 4 days Mardi Himal Trek will far too rush and you may have the altitude related problems on the trail.

Therefore, you need, at least, 6-7 days or 8 days for your Mardi Himal Trek with proper pacing while ascending and exploration time. But, it you needn’t acclimatize your body with the elevation you gained because you are not going to above 5000m. 

Do I need acclimatization for Mardi Himal Trek ?

You don’t need any acclimatization for your Mardi Himal Trek since you are ascending only up to 4500m. Actually, if you are going up to 5000m like  Everest Base Camp Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek, Annapurna Circuit Trek, then, of course you require acclimatization on the trail. But, this trek is taken as an easy or moderate trekking trip in Nepal in Annapurna Region. So, those who are doing or preparing Mardi Himal Trek in Nepal, acclimatization is not necessary and Mardi Himal Trek Itinerary is set without acclimatization days.

How to prepare for Mardi Himal Trek?

You can do some regular exercises including aerobics. If possible, do some shot hikes with a backpack, going up and downs. Get you health checked properly and fix if you have got any serious issue. Get all required trekking equipment or packlist for the trek.  Boost up your stamina by joining gym and do cardio in order to have the stamina of walking at least 6 hours a day at the higher elevation above 3000m. If you do these preparations, even though you are a beginner, you can do Mardi Himal Trek. 

Do I need prior trekking experience for Mardi Himal Trek?

Actually not, but having prior trekking experience above 3000m will be an asset for your while ascneidng up to 4500m. You can do some short hikes with a lot of up and downs and can do cardio at the gym to enhance your stamina. And, most importantly, you need to do a lot of research about the elevation, trail, food and accommodation, guide, packing list and working hours a day before you go for the trekking. 

Can beginners do Mardi Himal Trek?

Yes, even beginners can do Mardi Himal. But, the beginners should have that stamina and confidence that they can  walk at least 6 hours a day above 3000m in the mountain. Though you are a beginner, you need to have sound health with all required preparations like experiencing short hikes in the hills or mountain with plenty of up and downs. Actually, 50% trekkers who do Mardi Himal Trek will be beginners. So, if you are a beginner for the trekking and planning or thinking of doing Mardi Himal Trek, you can do it provided that you are well prepared with all required criteria.

 

What is the best time for Mardi Himal Trek?

The best time for Mardi Himal Trek is Autumn ( Sep-Nov). The months of September, October and November are the best months for trekking /Mardi Himal Trekking in Nepal. These months are best months of the year because these times of the year offer the trekkers the finest weather condition with the most astonishing views of the mountain panoramas. There is no rain and no snowfall during the months of Sep, Oct and Nov. The temperature is perfect for walking with warm sun in the day time and there no such considerable temperature drops even at the night. How difficult is the Mardi Himal trek?

Mardi Himal Trek is a moderate and sometimes it is taken as an easy trekking trip in Annapurna region of Nepal. No, Mardi Trek is no risky; it is a moderate walk through Annapurna Conservation Area. Trekkers won’t have to encounter with steep and slippery trail and they don’t have to ascend above 4500m. People rarely get altitude sickness during the ascent to Mardi Himal Base Camp. If you have the stamina and good health of walking 6-7 hours a day above 4000m, you won’t have to confront any king of risks on the trail.  Mardi Himal Trek is not actually for the beginners as it graded as moderate trekking in Nepal, however some beginners also dare to do Mardi Himal Base Camp and they accomplish it successfully.

 If you are doing this trek, Mardi Himal Base camp as a beginner, test yourself if you can walk at least 6-7 hours a day with your tiny backpack with several ups and downs at higher elevation like above 3000 m, then, definitely, you can do your Mardi Himal Base Camp. But, you have to acclimatize by ascending up to Forest Camp and High Camp and then only head for Mardi Himal Base Camp and Mardi Himal View Point( 4500m).
