How long is Gosainkunda Lake Trek?

Gosainkunda Lake Trek is 10 day long from Kathmandu to Kathmandu including the days of arrival, departure and Day Tour to World Heritage Sites. If you want to exclude Kathmandu Day Tour to World Heritage Sites, it will take total 9 days including Gosainkunda Pass. 

This 9 day Gosainkunda  Lake Trek Itinerary begins from Kathmandu to Dhunche and then Gosainkunda Pass and end the trek via Sundarijal walking out from Chisapani and Shivapuri National Park. 

But if you want to go Gosakinunda Lake via Dhunche and end it at the same place, Dhunche walking down along the same trail, it only takes 5 days. 

Actually, the beginners and moderate adventure lovers do Gosainkunda Lake Trek in 5 days, beginning from Dhunche and end at the same destination walking back along the same trekking trail via, Sing Gompa Lauribina. 

However, adventure lovers and those who want experience something more adventurous and enjoy the walk through Shivapuri National Park near Kathmandu, they choose going with Gosainkunda Lake Trek via Gosainkunda Pass and end it at Sundarijal finally. 

Therefore, it depends how long days do you have for Gosainkunda Lake Trek and what kind of Itinerary you want. If you really want to do it and you have only 4 days, you still can do it with private jeep drive and car drive from Kahtmandu-Dhunche- Kathmandu. Which one is better, Gosainkunda Lake Trek or Langtang Valley Trek?

Both Langtang Valley Trek and Gosainkunda Lake Trek are equally distinct and special in their own ways. Langtang Valley Trek takes you to Kyanjing Gumba ( 3840m) via Langtang Valley ( 3500m) and offers you magnificent and the closest view of Mt. Langtang and Lirung from Kyanji Ri(4500m) and Chheku Ri (4900m). But in Gosainkunda Lake Trek, one can have a beautiful experience of holy Gosainkunda Lake where god Shiva is believed to be residing along with some of the magnificent mountain views of Langtang, Lirung , Ganesh Himal and Manaslu. So, if you are truly a religious person like Hindu follower and a devotee of Shiva, you can do Gosainkunda Lake Trek; otherwise, simply go with Langtang Valley Trek. How difficult is Gosainkunda Lake Trek?

Gosainkunda Lake Trek is considered to be an easy or, sometimes, taken as moderate trekking trip in Langtang region of Nepal. The Trek takes you to the highest elevation of 4360m above the sea level which is Gosainkunda Lake. If the trekkers are adventure lovers and want to experience more exciting and adventurous hike, they can walk up to Gosainkunda Lake Pass ( 4609m) and end the trek in Sundarijal via Khutumsang and Chiapani. 

Even if you have basic skills of trekking or hiking but prepare the trek very well beforehand with right trekking equipment and trekking crew, even the beginners can accomplish Gosainkunda Lake Trek successfully.  

One doesn’t require having any special day for acclimatization for ascending Gosainkunda Lake. But, if you are going for Gosainkunda Pass, you require at least one day acclimatization day at Gosainkunda. 

If one has the stamina of hiking 6-7 hours with mountain ups and downs with little backpack, can easily conquer over Gosainkunda Lake Trek. How difficult is the Gosaikunda Trek?

Gosainkunda Trek is a moderate hiking trek in Langtang region of Nepal taking 5-10 days. The highest elevation you ascend to in Gosainkunda Trek is 4380m that is Gosainkunda Lake and if you want to cross Gosainkunda Pass, it will take you to 4630m high. 

So, it means, ascending up to 4500m or similar like that is considered to be moderate trek and if you are ascending above 5000m , it is taken as difficult or challenging trek . While doing Gosainkunda Lake Trek, one doesn’t require any acclimatization but if you are doing Gosainkunda Pass, you require acclimatization at Gosainkunda Lake. 

Otherwise, the people with mild stamina and preparations can easily triumph over Gosainkunda Lake Trek. Even the old people like 65 can comfortably do Gosainkunda Trek without any difficulty on the trail. However, we suggest you to prepare well for your Gosainkunda Lake Trek beforehand. 

Do regular exercises regularly at least 3 months prior and do pack up right trekking gear and check the weather forecast before heading onto the Gosainkuna Trek Trail. The people who can walk 5-6 hours with the elevation above 3000m to 4500m can find Gosainkunda Lake Trek very rewarding with lots of adventure walks during the trip. How to reach Gosainkunda Lake?

You can reach Gosainkunda by ways: via Dhunche or via Sundarijal. If you begin your Gosainkunda Lake from Sundarijal, you will walk past Shivapuri National Park passing through Chisapani, Kutumsang and Thadepati and finally walk past Gosainkunda Pass (4610m).

If you go Dhunche to begin your Gosainkunda Lake Trek, you will walk past  Chandanbari and Lauribina before you get to Gosainkunda Lake. 

Optionally, you can go to Gosainkunda Lake by helicopter as well from Kathmandu.

Which season is best for Gosaikunda Trek?

The best season for Gosainkunda Trek is Autumn ( Sept. Oct and November.) Among autumn months, the month of November is the best of all as the weather is clear and no risk of snowfall. 

What is the starting point to Gosainkunda?

You can begin your Gosainkunda Lake Trek from either Sundarijal near Kathmandu or Dhunche after 7-8 hours drive from Kathmandu. If you begin from Sundarijal, you need to cross Gosainkunda Pass( 4610m) and once you go to Dhunche to begin your Gosainkunda Lake Trek, you just walk to Gosainkunda Lake and walk back to Dhunche and then back to Kathmandu.
