I recently completed the Mardi Himal trek with Haven Holidays, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. The entire journey was well-organized, and the guides were incredibly helpful and attentive. The trek itself was challenging but rewarding, and the views of the Himalayas were absolutely breathtaking. Haven Holidays exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to book another adventure with them in the future.
I had the pleasure of trekking the Mardi Himal route with Haven Holidays, and it was truly a journey of a lifetime. From the moment I booked my trip, the team at Haven was there to assist me every step of the way. The guides were experienced and ensured our safety throughout the trek. The scenery was out of this world, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you, Haven Holidays, for an unforgettable adventure!
The highest point of the Mardi Himal Trek is Mardi Himal Base Camp, which is located at 4,500 meters (14,764 feet) above sea level. You can see the Annapurna Range from here: Mount Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, among others.
The Mardi Himal High Camp at 3,580 meters (11,745 feet) is usually reached; overnight, the trekkers get up very early in the morning to climb to Mardi Himal Base Camp and go down. This trek happens to be an incredible ridge-line view with relatively few crowds compared to other popular Annapurna treks.
Mardi Himal Trek is considered a moderate trek, and for it, one needs to be basically fit and have some experience in hiking. The Mardi Trekking trail ascends up to 4,500 meters at Mardi Himal Base Camp, with steep sections, especially from Low Camp to High Camp. The path alternates between forested trails, narrow ridges, and rocky terrain, requiring careful footing. Acclimatization is easier here than on other high-altitude treks, but the thin air above 3,000 meters can still give walkers mild altitude sickness.
The Mardi Trek distances are manageable-5-7 hours of walking a day-and there are teahouses to sleep in, but prior cardio training will help with comfort and endurance.
Mardi Himal is generally a 4 to 7 days trek starting and ending in Pokhara, depending on one's trekking pace and schedule. If you count the days from Kathmandu, it takes 6-7 days to complete Mardi Trek.
Mardi Himal Trek is relatively a short but rewarding trek into the Annapurna region. From Pokhara, you will be driving to Kande or Phedi, the starting point of the trek, and start ascending upwards through lush forests, quaint villages like Asutralian Camp, Pothana, Landruk and Forest Camp, and ridges that offer a panoramic view of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Mardi Himal.
Mardi Himal Trek from Kathmandu, add one more day to your schedule, considering the 6-7-hour drive or 25-minute flight to Pokhara. If traveling from Kathmandu to Mardi Himal Base Camp, it can take anything from 5 to 9 days, allowing ample time for travel and acclimatization.
Mardi Himal Trek is less challenging compared to ABC but has its challenges. The altitude reached by Mardi Himal is 4,500m at Mardi High Camp, whereas ABC is 4,130m, thus almost similar risks of altitude sickness.
However, Mardi's trail is steeper, narrower, and less developed, with sections passing through dense forests and exposed ridges. In contrast, the ABC trek has a relatively better infrastructure with gradually inclined ascents and relatively frequent teahouses: for example, the ascent of 7 hours from Forest Camp to High Camp on Mardi is rather steep, strenuous as compared to ABC's gentle climb from Chhomrong.
Yes, the Mardi Himal Trek can be completed in 6 days. Here's a short itinerary for Mardi Himal Trek.
Day 1: Drive from Pokhara (827m) to Kande (1,770m), trek to Forest Camp (2,550m) - 5-6 hours
Day 2: Trek from Forest Camp to Low Camp (3,050m) - 4-5 hours
Day 3: Trek from Low Camp to High Camp (3,580m) - 4-5 hours
Day 4: Hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m), back to High Camp - 6 - 7 hours
Day 5: From High Camp trek to Siding Village (1,750m) - 6-7 hours
Day 6: Drive from Siding to Pokhara - 2-3 hours
Mardi Himal Short trek offers great views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Mardi Himal. It requires a moderate physical fitness level: the daily walking hours are reasonable, and the gain in altitude each day is pretty gradual to avoid acute altitude sickness.
