This 7 day Poonhill Trek takes you to the top of Poonhill (3200m), a popular vantage point in the Annapurna region located at an elevation of 3200m high above sea level, and offers you tremendously magnificent mountain views with stunning sunrise. 

The mountain views include Dhaulagiri, Annapurna Massif, Gangapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and the most alluring Machhapuchhre. The combination of the first fall of sun rays and the dazzling mountain panoramas will be the moment of a lifetime for the trekkers. 

The trek begins from Kathmandu and takes you to Pokhara, and then to Nayapool and then to Ulleri and finally Banthanti by jeep in spring, Autumn and Winter. But in summer and rainy season, you have to begin this trek from Nayapool/Birethanti since the country's rough road doesn’t support for jeep ride up to Ulleri and Banthanti

As you ascend to Nangethanti after you take a jeep ride to Ulleri or Banthanti from Pokhara, you will enjoy an incredible walk through deep woods and natural waterfalls. More importantly, if you do this trek in Spring( Mar-May), you will celebrate astonishing flowering rhododendron ( the national flower of Nepal) covering the entire hills. Penultimately, you will get to Lower Ghorepani and ascend to Ghorepani village within 15 minutes. 

The ascent up to Ghorepani (2860m) unveils astonishing views of the entire mountain panorama of the Annapurna region including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna Massif, Gangapurna, Manaslu,  Himchuli, Ganesh Himal and the most alluring Machhapuchhre.

    How difficult is Ghorepani Poonhill Trek? 

    The 7 day Poonhill Trek is an easy trekking trip in Nepal in the popular Annapurna region. Actually, people go with Poonhill Trek a warm up for other challenging treks like Manaslu Circuit Trek and Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal. The highest elevation you get is 3200m which is Poonhill. Ghorepani is located at 2800m above sea level. Both Poonhill and Ghorepani are easy to ascend without any special kinds of hiking or trekking trainings. 

    Actually, going up to 3200m above sea level in the mountain is not difficult and even the 7 day Poonhill trekking trail is not technical and slippery with rocky hills and steep slopes. The trail is cool and serene in Annapurna Conservation Area taking you all the way up through lush forest and natural waterfalls till you get to the highest elevation, Poonhill and Ghorepani.

    What are the Required Permits for Poon Hill Trek? 

    Two types of different permits are required for your 7 day Ghorepani  Poonhill Trek. They are TIMS Card ( Trekking Information Management System) Card and Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit. The TIMS Card costs USD 20 and Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permits costs USD 30. You can obtain these 7 day Poonhill Trekking Permits from your local travel partner or you can collect them directly. The trekking company you are using for your Poon Hill Trek in Nepal will comfortably handle the issues of trekking permits beforehand the trek begins. 

    How are Food and Accommodation in Pun Hill  trek? 

    Until Pokhara, trekkers will enjoy luxury accommodation and they can have the food items they like. But, when they ascend up to Ulleri and Poonhill-Ghorepani, they may not have much chance to have such  accommodation and food items as they enjoy in the cities like Kahthmandu and Pokhara. However, don’t be sad, there are plenty of lodges and guesthouses to organize your accommodation and food. Moreover, your guide will manage your beautiful food and accommodation for you during the trek. The local guesthouses and the lodges will offer you food items with certain criteria with prices mentioned in the menu during your 7 day Poonhill Trek. The accommodation during Poonhill Trek will be based on twin sharing basis and if you want separate accommodation for overnight in your Poon Hill Trek, you should be ready to pay little more to the organizer.     What are transportation options for Ghrepani Poonhill Trek?

    If you are starting the trek from Kathmandu, you will have two options: air and land and if you are starting it from Pokhara, then, you have only one choice that island. The flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara is 40 minutes maximum and the road trip is 7-8 hours. Even, the road gets disturbed by heavy traffic and other issues. So, flight is recommended. Using the road trip to Pokhara and back to Kathmandu may waste your important time. 
     
    After you get to Pokhara, you again have to drive to Nayapool/Birethanti and then to Ulleri and Banthanti for 2-3 hours and begin the hiking. While returning from Ghorepani-Poonhill, you can drive directly from Ghandruk to Pokhara and Pokhara to Kathmandu. ( Flight from Pokhara is optional).

    Even the trekkers can find local buses going Kathmandu and Pokhara  every half an hour which is not recommended for you as they are full of hassles and discomforts. 

    Do I need to hire Guide and Porter for Poonhill Trek? 

    You require hiring at least a guide for your 7 Day Poonhill Trek which is more secured, and comfortable for your complete tour. Actually, hiring Guide and Porter is not mandatory for Poon Hill Trek in Annapurna region , however, the guide and porter will help you in every step of your walk and make your entire trip to Poonhill more fascinating, safer and memorable.

    How is facility of Drinking Water in Ghorepani Poonhill Trek? 

    One can have safe bottled water to drink in Poon Hill Trek Trip near Pokhara. Ever after Pokhara, the mountain villages like Ulleri, Banthanti, Ghorepani, Tadapni and Ghandruk has several local shops and they sell bottled water to the tourists who are visiting Poonhill.  One bottle of water (1.5 ltr. costs Rs 200-300.) Optionally, you can buy boiled water as well at the local lodge while ascending to Poon Hill and retiring back to Pokhara.

    The Annapurna Conservation Area Project  offers you a very pure and safe drinking water at every lodge in Poonhill Trek and you even don't need to buy bottled water. For this, you require paying Rs. 150 per liter of water. Si, the trekkers who are doing Poonhill Trekking and other trekking trips in Annapurna region like Annapurna Base Camp and Mardi Himal Trek do the same for drinking water on the trail. 

    How is connectivity and Communication Access in Ghorepani Poonhill 

    One will have an excellent strength of communications like phone calls and internet facilities on Poonhill Trekking trail. Both  Kathmandu and Pokhara will offer you full-fledged Wi-fi facility all the time and even the local villages on the Poonhill Trail like Ulleri, Banthanti, Ghorepani and Ghandruk will provide you a wide range of Wi-fi facility free of cost and you can communicate to whom you like in your comfortable time. 

    The better way of accessing more effective way of communication is installing local SIM Card like NT and NCELL either from Kathmandu or Pokhara which will give you a wider access to phone calls and internet for whatever you want to do online or offline. 

    Trip Itinerary

    Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu 1,338 m and transfer to hotel.

    Your trip starts from Kathmandu Arrive at Nepal International Airport then the Haven Holidays representative will receive you. After getting introduced to the staff there at the Airport your baggage will be loaded either in the car, coach or bus as per group size.  You will take  short drive maximum for 30 minutes to the center of Kathmandu city Thamel, where your hotel is located.

    On checking into your lovely rooms, getting refreshed from Jet-Lag, then get ready for group briefing at 4:30 pm, Where you will meet with other members who are going to do 7 day Poon Hill Trek. You will meet with the one of the officials  Company, the Tour guide and the trek leader brief with related information regarding the trek. Includes details on accommodation and food hours of walks and overnight stops and views along the treks.

    Stay overnight at hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu. 

    Day 2 : Drive to Pokhara 860 m. 06 hour drive covering 220 km /137 miles

    Morning having breakfast, get transferred into a car or coach as per the size of a group, for the overland journey. An exciting drive of more than Seven hours following the main Nepal busy highway, the drive leads along the Trisuli River. One of the most popular rivers for rafting adventure, the drive then diverts towards the west to reach Pokhara city. Along the drive, one can experience the rural farm life with grand views of snow-capped peaks. Slowly the drive ends on reaching Pokhara by the lovely Phewa Lake side, where all good hotels are located. After checking into a nice room, having time to browse around the Phewa Lakeside.

    (Option: by air from Kathmandu to Pokhara, a scenic flight of 30 minutes)

    Day 3 : Drive to Ulleri and Trek to Ghorepani village 2,885 m 07 hrs.

    Initially, you will take a jeep drive to Ulleri/Banthanti and then formally begin to walk through deep woods and natural waterfalls. But, this jeep drive is possible only in Spring, Autumn and Winter, not possible in rainy. 

    The walk continues, from Ulleri, as the trail gets better on a gradual winding path to Ghorepani.
The highest overnight stops of the trip, enjoy the lunch stop along the way and continue the trek on a winding path with short ups. The walk leads amidst beautiful woods of pines and rhododendrons to reach the main welcome gate, the entrance to Ghorepani village.

    From the welcome gate, a short climb to Upper/Deurali where Ghorepani village is situated. Facing grand views of the Dhaulagiri Himal range, having nice good lodges for trekkers, as you check into a lovely room. Enjoy the lunch and overnight stop, with the rest of the afternoon relax and explore the Poon-Magar village with views of snow peaks. Ghorepani stands amidst enchanting woods of rhododendron and pine trees, on the foot of famous Poon Hill.

    Day 4 : Morning hike to Poon Hill and trek to Tadapani 2,640 m - 06 hrs.

    Start the early morning hike, a climb to Poon Hilltop (3210 m) takes about an hour or a little more. On reaching the top and the highest point of the adventure enjoy the stunning sunrise views. Poon Hill with an observation tower to catch more panoramic views of the staggering mountain range. After bright and striking sunrise views along with a grand panorama of the world’s highest peaks of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu and Annapurna Himalayas with arrays of snow peaks.  Being refreshed with cool morning breathtaking views, head downhill to Ghorepani for breakfast, and then continue walking. From Ghorepani on an alternative route, offers more scenic views with new places of southern ridges of the Annapurna Himalayas. Climb to the top of Deurali Hill, which is almost the same height as Poon Hill.

    The views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan range remain constant, then head downhill to Bhanthati a small settlement. Possible lunch stop, afternoon walk down to a stream and an hour climb up to Tadapani.

    Day 5 : Trek to Ghandruk 2,012 m / 6,601 feet -04 hours.
and drive back to Pokhara (2 hrs.)

    Morning enjoy another stunning sunrise view from Tadapani, from the lodge of overnight stay. Enjoy the close views of Annapurna peaks, having breakfast morning a short and easy walk to Ghandruk village.

    Start the morning walk through beautiful woodland to reach the small settlement of Bhaise Kharka. Downhill starts down to a stream and then on a winding trail to Ghandruk. One of the largest Gurung villages around the Annapurna Himalaya range. The Gurung people with similar looks like Poon Magar of Ghorepani villagers. The Gurung follow Hinduism and Buddhism religion with their own ancient culture of the Bon sect of pre-Buddhism. At Ghandruk after checking into the best lodges available, after lunch explore the interesting village and its small Gurung museum and after you explore Ghandruk Village, you will drive back to Pokhara with a four-wheel jeep and check in at the hotel.

    Do a half day sightseeing tour of Pokhara if you like by visiting World Peace Stupa, Pumdikot Mahadev Statue, Phewa Lake, Gupteswor Mahadev Cave and Davis Fall. You can walk around Lakeside Pokhara in the evening. 

    Day 6 : Drive or fly back to Kathmandu.

    Morning, after breakfast depart from the hotel for an interesting drive or fly back to Kathmandu. The road follows on main busy highway, after leaving the Trisuli River, and then the road climbs on winding up to the outskirts of Kathmandu Valley. From the high end of the valley rim, the driver slowly enters the busy bustling city of Kathmandu. On reaching Thamel or near about then check into respective hotels, The afternoon is free for leisure for individual activities and the evening, flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu is optional with extra cost.

    Farewell Dinner with a Nepali cultural program.

    Day 7 : International departure for homeward bound.

    Last day in Nepal and Kathmandu, Ensure all travel documents (passport, visa, tickets) are ready. Check-in online boarding if possible to save time.Pack essentials in carry-on (medications, electronics, documents).

    Reporting time at the airport, at least 2-3 hours before departure for international flights. Account for possible delays in transport to the airport time for your respective airline's flight departures.
